Sparta
After Sparta residents spent the day questioning the closure of the bridge on the city's walking trail, board members were given an update on plans for repairs.
The pedestrian bridge connecting the lower loop of South Carter Street Park to the sidewalks on South Young Street has been closed indefinitely, prompting a wave of public concern throughout the day Thursday. By the time the Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen met that evening, Public Works Director Dillard Quick addressed the issue directly, explaining why the decision was necessary.
Quick told board members that the bridge’s structure has reached a point where safety can no longer be guaranteed.
