Tennessee lawmakers are taking another step toward addressing a problem that’s been quietly building for years — not enough doctors to meet growing demand.

A proposal advancing through the General Assembly aims to ease that strain by opening a new pathway for internationally trained physicians to practice in the state. Supporters say it’s a practical move to help fill gaps in care, especially in rural communities where access to doctors is already limited.
