A proposal moving through the Tennessee legislature aims to strengthen how new teachers are trained and help schools keep qualified educators in the classroom.

Legislation by Education Committee Chairman Mark White, R-Memphis, would create a three-year pilot program to support teacher residency programs across the state. These programs allow future teachers to train in real classrooms while also completing their college coursework, similar to the way doctors complete medical residencies.
