The Warriorettes saw their four-game win streak come to an end Monday night, as White County Middle School traveled to Warren County and couldn’t recover from an early deficit in a 6-2 loss to the Lady Pioneers.
Warren County wasted no time setting the tone. A leadoff double, followed by a White County error, quickly put two runners on in the bottom of the first. With two outs, the Lady Pioneers strung together back-to-back doubles, plating three runs and putting the Warriorettes in an early hole.
White County threatened in the second but couldn’t capitalize, leaving two runners in scoring position. The Warriorettes finally broke through in the top of the third. Sophia Austin led off with a line drive single to center, and Dreu Segraves followed with a bunt that was mishandled at first, putting runners on the corners with no outs. Bianca Villano lifted a deep fly ball, allowing Austin to tag and score while Segraves advanced to second. Segraves later stole third, but the inning stalled when Paizlee Taylor’s line drive to center dropped in and Segraves was thrown out at the plate after hesitating on the play.
The Warriorettes added another run in the fourth. Bella Rosell-Diaz worked a leadoff walk and moved to second on a single from Kinsley Randall. Carli Goines drew a walk to load the bases, and Austin delivered again with an RBI single to right. But White County couldn’t do more damage, as a strikeout and a fielder’s choice ended the inning with the bases still loaded and the Warriorettes trailing 3-2.
Warren County answered in the bottom half of the inning and created separation. A walk and a triple pushed one run across, and a nearly identical sequence — another walk followed by a triple — brought in two more, stretching the lead to 6-2.
White County had one more chance in the fifth, getting two runners on, but a pickoff at second and a double play quickly ended the threat and the game.
Taylor went the distance in the circle, throwing 87 pitches. She allowed six runs, three earned, on five hits and four walks while striking out six of the 22 batters she faced.
The Warriorettes will look to bounce back Wednesday when Prescott travels to Sparta. White County will also get a quick shot at redemption Thursday, when Warren County comes to town to close out the regular season.
