The White County Warriorettes took on the York Dragons Monday night in their quest to stay undefeated. Unfortunately, they would fall in the final game of the Frank’s Christmas Shootout to take the runner-up award along with their first loss of the 2025-26 season.
The Dragons won the tip and kept the ball at their end of the court for close to a full minute. However, they came away without a score, and the Warriorettes had their first offensive opportunity. Neither team could find a basket for the next thirty seconds and it was Ashlyn Selby getting the first points on the board. Moments later, Bella Winningham dropped one from well behind the arc to put White County up 5-0 as their signature pressure defense started making things difficult on York. It was five and a half minutes before the Dragons found the basket at all, and the Warriorettes had an 8-2 lead at the first buzzer.
York came into the second quarter matching White County’s intensity, and the result was a slew of turnovers and defensive rebounds by both teams. It took two minutes of the game clock before the score would change, but only for both teams to add two. After another minute, Selby hit one from the logo to spark the White County offense. Once again, however, the Dragons proved that they were willing to play fast and physical with the Warriorettes and answered quickly. At the halftime buzzer, the teams found themselves deadlocked at just 17 apiece.
The second half opened with York dropping one through the net to take a three-point lead. The lid stayed on the basket for the Warriorettes as nothing they put up would fall over the first three-and-a-half minutes. The York game plan worked, and the Dragons had a 31-20 lead at the close of the third quarter.
The first score of the final quarter came on a three from Kyra Fox to cut the Dragon lead to single digits, but it wasn’t enough. York shut down the Warriorettes attack with a zone defense and White County’s frustration came out in a slew of fouls on defense.
With two-and-a-half minutes on the game clock White County found themselves down by eight. Gracie Clark drained one from behind the three-point-line to spark the Warriorettes for one more push. Despite the effort, they weren’t able to work past the stifling York defense and finished on the wrong side of a 30-36 scoreboard.
