The Warriorette Flag Football team dropped their third straight game Friday night, but there were encouraging signs throughout the game. White County’s offense got going in this week’s game, something they haven’t been able to do in the two previous outings, and they put double-digit points on the board. It wasn’t enough, however, as the Siegel Stars outpaced them and took home the 38-20 win.
White County’s Allibeth Stebing had 10 carries for 123 yards. The Warriorette quarterback also connected on 14 passes for a total of 129 yards. It was senior Katie Blakeman who caught seven of Stebing’s passes, racking up receiving yards. Gloria Hernandez had 33 yards as she caught the other seven White County passes.
Defensively, the Warriorettes put together a strong outing, despite giving up 38 points. Blakeman pulled 4 flags and picked off the Siegel quarterback twice. Hernandez and Chirstina Bryant combined for another 5 flag pulls while Bryant was credited with a sack. Makayla Sullivan and Addy Cocke each picked off the Stars’ quarterback to bring White County’s interception total to four for the game.
The Warriorettes are playing without four of their rostered players as the high school basketball team is on an epic run and will play in the state championship game today. Once the basketball season is officially over, they will get Sarah Kate Winfree, one of last season’s stars back to the gridiron. They will also see Kylee Norris and Kyra Fox return to their lineup – two huge keys on both sides of the ball for the Warriorettes. In addition, Rhaleigh Cloyd will join the Warriorette flag football team as the junior looks to make her mark in the sport.
The Warriorette junior varsity team picked up their first win Friday night as they took a 26-0 victory before the varisty match began.
Next up for White County is a trip to Oakland where they will take on the Raiders Thursday night. The Warriorettes will look to get in the win column as they should have their team back to full strength – although it should be noted that Fox will be coming off the basketball court sporting a brace as she is still healing from a dislocated elbow earlier this month.
Thursday’s game is scheduled to begin at 7pm, with junior varsity at 6:00, and will be broadcast on 92.7 YERT FM as Paxton Elmore gets the call.
