White County got one final tune-up before the regular season kicks off Friday night, using last week's scrimmage against Gordonsville as an opportunity to sharpen both sides of the ball.

While the 12-6 victory over the Tigers won't count in the standings, it gave the Warriors a chance to build confidence and clean up the final details before traveling to Soddy Daisy for the season opener.

The offense flashed big-play potential throughout the night. Senior Cole Sims opened the scoring with a 66-yard touchdown run, while quarterback Tucker Pinion connected with Tristan Cavanaugh on a 17-yard pass. Tate Pinion later broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run, and Rick Foster added a 24-yard gain to help keep the offense moving.

Defensively, the Warriors also came up with timely plays. JoJo McDowell recorded an interception, and White County added another takeaway in the end zone to keep Gordonsville off the scoreboard.

Heading into the season, head coach David Foster said he wants his team to "play fast and play physical," and the Warriors showed flashes of both throughout the scrimmage as they continued preparing for the games that count.
