Aubrey Oleksik helped Warren County volleyball finish the regular season on a roll, and the senior’s consistency at the net has earned her the latest Main Street Journal WCHS Athlete of the Week honor presented by Reddick Brown Ford.
Oleksik led the Lady Pioneers in kills in each of their final three regular-season matches last week, totaling 28 as Warren County swept DeKalb County, Cannon County and Shelbyville without dropping a set.
The three-match stretch was part of a bigger late-season winning streak for the Lady Pioneers, who closed the regular season with four consecutive victories, all coming in straight sets, to climb back above .500 and enter postseason play with a 14-12 overall record.
Oleksik was a steady presence throughout the final week.
She opened with 10 kills in Monday’s 25-9, 25-17 and 25-13 road victory over DeKalb County, and also recorded three digs, an ace and an assist as Warren County started its busy final week with a convincing win in Smithville.
Oleksik then saved her biggest offensive performance of the week for Senior Night.
With Oleksik and fellow seniors Ali Young, Jenna Mullins and Alyssa Boyd being honored in their final regular-season match at Charlie Dalton Gymnasium, Oleksik delivered a team-high 11 kills to help Warren County battle past Cannon County 29-27, 26-24 and 25-11.
She also added six digs and a block as the Lady Pioneers survived a pair of tight opening sets before pulling away in the third.
The performance was a fitting contribution from one of Warren County’s four senior leaders on a night coach Erin Blalock praised the group for the time, energy and heart each of them had given to the program.
Oleksik remained at the forefront of the Lady Pioneer attack two nights later in Shelbyville. Warren County had to fight through another close opening set, but Oleksik once again paced the offense with seven kills as the Lady Pioneers pulled away for a 26-24, 25-13 and 25-14 sweep.
She added five digs and two assists in the regular-season finale, helping Warren County complete a perfect final week without surrendering a set.
The Athlete of the Week honor comes at an important time for Oleksik and the Lady Pioneers. Warren County’s regular season may be finished, but the senior and her teammates will now try to extend their season in the District 7-3A Tournament this week in Smyrna.
