Emma Woodlee has spent much of the fall running near the front of the pack, and Thursday's regular-season finale at Sewanee was no exception.

The Warren County High School cross country standout captured first place at the Sewanee University 5K Invitational, completing the course in 21 minutes, 31 seconds to secure her second individual victory of the season. Her performance earned her recognition as the Main Street Journal's Reddick Brown Ford WCHS Athlete of the Week for Oct. 11-17.

Woodlee's victory highlighted a strong afternoon for the Lady Pioneers, who placed five runners inside the top 13 in their final competition before the postseason.

For Woodlee, the result added another accomplishment to an impressive fall campaign that has seen her consistently emerge as Warren County's leading runner.

She opened the season with a runner-up finish at the Community Trail Invitational on Aug. 19, crossing the finish line in 23:14 as the Lady Pioneers captured the girls team championship.

Less than two weeks later, Woodlee earned her first individual victory of the season at the Coffee County Invitational on Aug. 31. Competing against a field of 84 runners in Manchester, she completed the 5K course in 22:19 to take first place.

Woodlee continued to establish herself among the area's top competitors as the season progressed.

At the second annual Tree City XC Invitational, hosted by Warren County on Sept. 26, she placed sixth in 21:00 against a competitive field featuring programs from across the region.

She followed that performance with another sixth-place finish at the Meet in the Middle Invitational at Webb on Sept. 30, clocking a time of 21:21.

Thursday's victory at Sewanee gave Woodlee five top-six finishes in her five completed races this season, including two individual victories. Her contributions have also helped anchor a Lady Pioneer squad preparing for one of its biggest opportunities of the fall.

Warren County will host the Section 4-3A championships Monday, Oct. 26, with the varsity girls race beginning at 10 a.m. and the boys race following at approximately 10:40 a.m.

The stakes will be high, with the top four teams in Division I Class AAA advancing to the state championships, along with the next five fastest individuals who are not members of qualifying teams.

After finishing the regular season on top at Sewanee, Woodlee will look to carry that success into postseason competition.
