With summer workouts approaching, the Warren County High School cross country program is encouraging interested students, especially upcoming freshmen, to get involved ahead of the 2026 season.
The WCHS cross country team, fresh off sending two runners to State in the 2025 season, is open to anyone interested in running, with no tryouts required to join the team.
“We would love to have anyone interested in running join our program,” head coach Kelsea Turner said. “Cross country is a great opportunity to challenge yourself, build endurance, and be part of a supportive team environment.”
The team recently held an interest meeting at the school and saw a strong turnout, but coaches are continuing to reach out to potential runners before summer practices begin later in the year.
Turner said summer workouts are expected to begin sometime in July, with the coaching staff currently focused on helping athletes complete the paperwork needed before the school year begins. Because the cross country season starts almost immediately after school resumes in August, athletes must have their physicals and any other necessary paperwork completed in advance.
Students interested in joining the team are encouraged to contact Turner directly to receive all necessary information and forms.
The program is particularly hoping to connect with incoming freshmen looking for an opportunity to compete, stay active and become part of the Pioneer athletic community.
