The Warriors haven't blinked yet

The White County Middle School Warriors are still perfect, and they made sure there was little doubt about that Thursday night on the mountain.

White County traveled to Cumberland County and came home with a 36-0 win, improving to 4-0 on the season as the Warriors reached the halfway point of their schedule.

The scoring was spread around throughout the night. Quarterback Eston Humphrey found the end zone, Julian Seely scored twice, and Darius Jackson and Jared Ortiz each added touchdowns of their own.

That balance was exactly what head coach Aaron Brown wanted to see.

“Always happy to be undefeated,” Brown said. “The boys did what they needed to do to make a conference championship push. Four different people scored last night, which is what we want to see.”

While the offense put 36 points on the board, White County was just as dominant on the other side of the ball. Brown praised Tanner Steele, Caleb Steele, Brayden Walloch and Sampson Winfrey for particularly strong games on a defense that controlled the night.

“Defensively, we completely shut down their offense and never were in threat of being scored on,” Brown said.

The Warriors have made relatively quick work of the first half of their schedule. After opening the season with a 34-6 win over Prescott, White County beat Algood 47-6 and Avery Trace 48-12 before Thursday’s shutout.

Now, however, Brown expects the challenge to get considerably tougher.

“We are at the halfway point of the season, and the remaining teams in our schedule are all undefeated or 3-1,” Brown said. “The difficulty will crank up significantly, and we are excited to see how the boys respond.”

White County has three games remaining, with two of those coming on the road. The Warriors travel to Upperman next week before returning home to host Stone Memorial. They will close out the regular season Sept. 22 at DeKalb County.
