White County Middle School’s golf team put together a solid outing Tuesday, finishing near the top of the field while turning in some of the lowest individual scores of the day.

The Warriors finished second with a team score of 175, led by eighth grader Gaige Evans. Evans posted a 40, the lowest boys’ score on the course, and gave White County a steady round to build around.

White County stayed consistent behind him. Benji Johnson and Connor Delong each came in with rounds of 43, while Henry Farley added a 46. Stone Whitson finished at 47, Kyson Taylor shot a 49, and Logan Phillips rounded out the day with a 50.

Head coach Farrah Griffith pointed to the mix of experience and younger players continuing to develop on the boys’ side.

“The boys team posted some solid rounds led by 8th grader Gaige Evans today," she said, "and, we are excited about the future with the strong showing from some of our first year players including 6th grader Stone Whitson."

On the girls’ side, Ava Elrod turned in the lowest score of anyone on the course.

Elrod finished with a 35, topping both the girls and boys fields. Piper Heady followed with a 36, giving White County two of the best rounds of the day. Rowan Hudson added a 51 and Karsyn West finished with a 57.

“We continue to be impressed with the scores our girls are posting," Griffith said. "Piper Heady and Ava Elrod have posted some great rounds this season so far. Both have had rounds under par already.”

Head coach Farrah Griffith said the early results are matching what the team has been working toward.

"Golf has become a popular sport in the last few years in Sparta, and we are proud of the efforts of all the players who are putting in the work to improve at a sport that can be brutal at times!”
