Taylor deals as Warriorettes cruise to shutout victory

The White County Middle School softball team put Monday night’s game away in the opening minutes, but that didn’t stop them from having some fun in the dirt on their way to a 14-0 win over Stone Memorial.  

Addison Finley, batting second for the Warriorettes, set the tone right away. She singled sharply to center field, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored the game’s first run when Paizlee Taylor sent a ground ball into center. That would have been enough, but White County wasn’t finished. The Warriorettes piled on eight more runs in the opening frame to take full control.

Stone Memorial threatened briefly in the bottom of the first when their second batter was hit by a pitch and another doubled with two outs. But Taylor, working in the circle, shut the door—striking out the next two batters to end the inning and any momentum the home team hoped to build.

The Warriorettes added to their lead in the third inning. Dreu Segraves drew a walk to start things off, and Bianca Villano followed with a line-drive triple to deep center to bring her home. Finley picked up another RBI with a single to score Villano, and Taylor added a base hit of her own. After Bella Rosell-Diaz moved both runners into scoring position with a ground ball back to the pitcher, Kinsley Randall cleared the bases with a double. Carli Goines capped the inning with an RBI single, pushing the lead to 14-0.

Taylor handled the rest from the circle, throwing 30 strikes to just 13 balls. She allowed only two hits and struck out three in the shutout effort.

White County will be back in action at home against DeKalb County, with the Warriorettes set to host Teacher Appreciation Night in Sparta.
