Snow and freezing temperatures kept the White County Middle School baseball team off the field Monday, but the Warriors were more than ready when they finally took on Cumberland County in a Tuesday doubleheader. Even with the cold air, their bats stayed hot as they claimed both games by double digits—22 runs in the opener and 15 more in the nightcap.
The first game, a make-up from Monday, saw White County jump out to a 3–0 lead in the top of the first. Cumberland County answered in the bottom half, using a pair of two-out walks and a White County error to move ahead 6–3. That was the last time the Jets would score. From that point on, it was all Warriors.
White County exploded for a 16-run second inning that put the game well out of reach. They added three more runs in the third, and pitcher Carson Burton closed it out in dominant fashion—throwing just nine pitches, all strikes, to retire the side in order and seal a 22–6 win.
Despite only collecting six hits, the Warriors worked the count relentlessly, drawing 17 walks and winning the game with disciplined baserunning. Owen Clouse pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing six runs on one hit and five walks while striking out two. Tate Pinion entered in relief and covered the rest of the first and all of the second, giving up one hit, one walk, and striking out three. Burton needed only those nine pitches to strike out the three batters he faced to end the game.

Game two followed a familiar script, except this time Cumberland County never crossed the plate. White County rolled to a 15–0 shutout, improving to 2–0 on the season.
In the first inning, Noah Teeple reached on a dropped third strike, and Burton was hit by a pitch. Teeple later scored on a catching error as Jack Dicus worked a six-pitch walk. A single from Pinion brought in another run, and the Warriors were off and running. Though those two runs would have been enough, they added 12 more in the second and tacked on one in the third.
The Warriors logged seven hits and nine walks in the win, while Dicus handled all three innings on the mound. He allowed no hits and no runs, issuing only two walks in a strong performance.
White County returns home Monday night to host Prescott South. Postgame coverage will be provided all season long by Sparta Heating & Air Conditioning.
