Pryor sets the pace

White County's cross country runners joined hundreds of competitors from across Middle Tennessee Saturday morning for one of the bigger meets on their schedule, the MSCCA Voyles Classic at The Hermitage in Hermitage.

The meet carries an added connection for White County. The annual race is named in memory of former White County distance runner Markie Voyles, who died in 2008 at age 17. Voyles was one of Tennessee's top distance runners during her high school career, including state championships in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.

It was also a sub-30 day across the board for White County, with all 10 runners completing the 5K course in under 30 minutes.

Freshman Kolt Pryor continued to lead the way for the Warriors. Pryor set a new personal record and, for the second week in a row, was the first White County runner across the finish line, finishing in 22:43.99.

He had company at the front of White County's pack. Logan Allen crossed less than a second later at 22:44.74, while Isaac Williams also finished under the 25-minute mark. Also running for the Warriors were Luke Benson, Hunter Rigsby, Lincol Kulger, and William Martinez.

Samantha Benson was the first Warriorette across the line, finishing in 25:46.70. Olivia Revange and Natalie Wilson rounded out White County's top three on the girls side.

The Voyles Classic is part of the Midstate Cross Country Association schedule. Results from the meet also carry over toward postseason MSCCA recognition, with runners who compete in both the Voyles Classic and the MSCCA Championships having their times combined for the association's season-ending rankings.
