The White County Middle School Warriorettes softball made the trip to Smithville on Wednesday afternoon and left with a much more comfortable result than the last time they saw DeKalb County Lady Saints softball.

After edging out a 5-4 win in their previous meeting, White County didn’t leave much to chance this time. A 10-run first inning set the tone early, and the Warriorettes never looked back in an 11-5 win.

The offense did most of the heavy lifting. White County finished with 14 hits on the afternoon, and they needed them. The Warriorettes were charged with eight errors defensively, allowing DeKalb County to hang around longer than the early score might have suggested.

It didn’t take long for White County to get rolling.

Bella Villano reached to open the game when her hard-hit ball wasn’t handled cleanly. Singles from Addison Finley and Paizlee Taylor followed, with Taylor driving in the first run. Bella Rosell-Diaz then added another single to load the bases with no outs, and the Warriorettes were just getting started.

Kinsley Randall followed with a hard ground ball that brought in two more runs. A passed ball allowed Rosell-Diaz to score, and Josslyn Wright added an RBI on a line drive. Sofia Austin doubled into center field, and Dreu Segraves followed with a single to push another run across.

By the time the inning came to a close—helped along by another double and a pair of singles—White County had built a 10-0 lead before ever taking the field on defense.

That early surge proved to be more than enough.

DeKalb County didn’t get on the board until the bottom of the third, using a pair of errors and a passed ball to manufacture a run. But the Warriorettes answered right back. A double from Rosell-Diaz, a single by Randall, and a hard-hit ball from Wright stretched the lead to 11-1.

The Lady Saints made one more push in the fourth, highlighted by a two-run home run. A single and two more White County errors added a couple of additional runs, but that would be as close as they would get.

The final inning came and went without any further movement on the scoreboard, sealing the 11-5 win and a sweep of the season series.

Rosell-Diaz led the way at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 and setting the table for the Warriorettes’ big inning.

In the circle, Paizlee Taylor worked the first three innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two. Kambrie Tayes handled the final two innings, giving up one earned run—five total—on two hits while striking out a pair.

With the win, White County improves to 13-2 on the season and heads back home where they will host Livingston Academy Thursday night.
