The White County Board of Education has approved a new approach to snow days that will put some money back in the pockets of hourly school employees who would otherwise miss out entirely when schools close.

At Thursday’s meeting, board members unanimously backed a policy that creates a form of “snow day pay” for non-salaried workers—positions like educational assistants, cafeteria staff, and school nurses—who typically don’t get paid when bad weather shuts down schools.
