White County’s Harleigh Young signed her National Letter of Intent today. Young is officially trading in the maroon and gray she’s worn for the past three years for some purple and white as she will be joining the Trevecca Trojans cheer squad next year.

“I went up there and met all the cheerleaders over the summer, and I just loved the environment that was up there,” Young said that she instantly felt at home on the campus of Trevecca Nazarene College. “All of the people I met – both the girls on the cheer squad and the people around campus in general – were amazing.”
The Trojans cheer for both basketball and volleyball games, so Young will miss her time on the sidelines of the football fields, but she’s trading those hours in for something different. Travecca’s all-girl cheer squad is competitive, something Young said she has never participated in before.
“I went and watched their routine yesterday, and it was just really exciting,” she said. “I can’t wait to be a part of that.”
Young, who will be studying exercise science with a concentration in pre occupational therapy, said that she understands that there will be bigger demands when she moves to the collegiate level. However, she is ready to tackle the extra practices and the pressure of competition.
“Harleigh has been with me for four years, and when she started out, she was so scared to try anything new. These last two years, she has come out of her shell. She is willing to try anything,” White County cheer coach Tracy Mason said. “She’s a great cheerleader. She’s a good role model, and I’m so proud of her. I wish her all the luck in the world at Trevecca. I know that she will do well.”
