White County Schools has named its three Teacher of the Year nominees.

"The White County Board of Education is proud of all our educators, but today, we are especially proud of those who have been selected by their peers and named building-level Teachers of the Year, including Leah Simmons (Grades Pre K-4), Jacee Vaughn (Grades 5-8), and Ken Craig (Grades 9-12)," Director of Schools Kurt Dronebarger said. "These exceptional Teacher of the Year nominees display an unwavering commitment and passion to the profession that consistently produce incredible results and student success."

Simmons, a teacher at Doyle Elementary, stands out among her peers due to her selflessness and willingness to do more than the job requires of her.

"Doyle is blessed to have Ms. Leah Simmons.  She is truly deserving of being District Teacher of the Year,” Doyle Elementary principal Melea Johnson said. “She willingly steps up to take on leadership roles and always puts students and colleagues first."

Vaughn, a guidance teacher at Woodland Park Elementary, was selected not only for the work she does with her students, but also for her work to keep student families engaged and ensure that her students’ needs are met.

"Mrs. Jacee Vaughn is one of a kind. Woodland Park is so fortunate to have her. Not only does she help our students, but also our faculty and staff. Mrs. Jacee also keeps our parents informed of resources available for their children,” Woodland Park Elementary principal Juli Johnson said. “You can count on Mrs. Jacee for a smile and kind words spoken daily."

Craig, a math teacher at White County High School, was chosen for his dedication to helping students plan for their futures as he teaches them not just math skills, but a desire to learn about the world they will be entering after graduation.

"WCHS is so proud to have a great educator represent our school as Teacher of the Year,” principal Greg Wilson said. “Mr. Ken Craig is diligent about helping young men and women discover their futures both mathematically and personally. His dedication to sharing knowledge and guidance has touched so many students' lives during his career. He breaks things down and guides students to develop a love for learning. We are blessed to have Coach Craig in our Warrior family."

Each teacher selected will have their name submitted for the Regional Teacher of the Year award to be voted on and selected in the spring.
