It's easy to look at a city meeting agenda and assume it's just another night of routine business.
Most of Thursday's meeting probably will be.
But there are a couple of items tucked into the agenda that could be of interest to Sparta - and White County - residents.
One would change the rules for mobile food vendors. Aldermen are scheduled to consider the final reading of an ordinance that would prohibit food trucks from remaining parked overnight in the same location without written permission from the city. It would also establish operating hours, requiring vendors to leave within 30 minutes of closing.
Another item moves the city's splash park one step closer to completion. The board is expected to authorize sealed bids for pavilion materials, another piece of a project the community has been watching for close to a year. It's not the ribbon cutting everyone is waiting for, but it is another sign the project is moving forward.
Those are two items we think will generate the most discussion among community members, but what stands out to you?
If you have an opinion on any topic on the agenda, it's worth remembering that the City of Sparta's public comment period comes after the board has already voted on agenda items. That means the best opportunity to share your thoughts with elected officials is before the meeting by contacting an alderman. And if there's an issue you'd like to see discussed that isn't on Thursday's agenda, reaching out beforehand also gives board members the chance to consider bringing it up under new business or placing it on a future agenda. The city only allows public comment on items actually on the agenda.
We'll bring you complete coverage of the meeting later Thursday night, Until then, take a look through the agenda below and tell us—which item do you think deserves the most attention?
