Newton Ross Rowland, age 77, born and raised in Warren County, Tennessee, passed away June 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of faith, strength and unwavering work ethic. Throughout his life, he took on many roles - son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, teacher, cook and many hats as an entrepreneur.

The community was shaken Thursday by news of the death of local figure and BBQ legend Newton “Newt” Rowland. A 1970 graduate from Tennessee Tech, he opened Newt's Barbecue in 2024, inspired by culinary legends Pope Taylor, Powell and Ina Rowland and Dinty Moore. Main Street Media owners
