Sara Jean Thaxton was born on May 9, 1934 to the late J L and Sara Thaxton. In addition to her parents, she had a great love and respect for her brother, Charles Douglas Thaxton and was also preceded in death by nephew, Douglas Thaxton. Family members mourning her passing are cousin, Berry Lannom; nephews, Jeff Thaxton and Jay Thaxton and nieces, Debra Jean O’Connell and Lisa Swarts.

She was a graduate of McMinnville Central High School in 1952 and worked at the Methodist Board of Discipleship as an auditor in the treasurer’s office. Upon retiring she was honored for working 45 years, which at that time was the longest years of service of any employee.

Sara Jean loved people and had a wonderful dry sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by her friends and church family. She has been a member of the McMinnville United Methodist Church for 80 plus years. Her grandfather, Rev. Berry Thomas Lannom was the pastor of the church in the 1930’s.

Graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025 at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Warren County with Rev. Ryan Heatherly officiating. No service or visitation will be held at High’s.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice of McMinnville or the organization of your choice.
