The Sparta Board of Mayor and Aldermen will meet Thursday with a relatively short agenda in front of them.
The board will meet at 5 p.m. Sept. 17 on the second floor of Sparta City Hall.
One of the first items of business will be a personnel recommendation for the city’s sewer department. Aldermen will be asked to approve the hiring of Dustin Kerr as a sewer plant operator-in-training.
The board will also consider a $35,500 purchase for the city’s truck fleet. The bid is for a 15-foot dump bed — the large open container on the back of a dump truck used to haul and unload materials — with an air-operated tailgate. The new equipment would be installed on a Freightliner truck.
Department heads will provide their regular reports before the meeting moves into new business, unfinished business, and citizen comments.
While Thursday’s agenda is light, city officials also have a work session scheduled for Monday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. That meeting will focus on paving, parking, and sign ordinances.
