The future of baseball and softball was all over the fields Saturday at the White County Recreational Complex as the Tiny Tots division took its turn under the lights and on the dirt.
At that age, the scoreboard doesn’t matter — and in Tiny Tots, there isn’t one anyway. The focus is on something much bigger: learning the basics of the game, building confidence, and most importantly, having fun.
From oversized batting helmets and careful swings off the tee to excited sprints down the baseline, Saturday’s games were filled with the moments that make youth sports special. Coaches and parents lined the fences offering encouragement while players worked on everything from throwing mechanics to learning where to run after making contact.

For many of the young athletes, it’s their first introduction to organized baseball or softball. That means every clean hit, every glove stop, and every trip around the bases feels like a major accomplishment.
There were plenty of smiles, high-fives, and dugout celebrations throughout the morning as players continued developing the skills that could one day carry them into the older divisions at the complex. But for now, the Tiny Tots league is about creating a love for the game and giving kids a chance to learn in a fun, supportive environment.
And judging by the excitement on the field Saturday, that mission is working just fine.
