White County Middle School’s season came to a close Friday night with a 6-2 loss to Warren County, as an early deficit proved too much for the Warriorettes to overcome.

Warren County struck first in the top of the opening inning, using a mix of base hits, patience at the plate, and a pair of White County errors to push four runs across and take early control.

White County answered in the bottom half. Bianca Villano led off with a single to left and stole second to move into scoring position. Paizlee Taylor followed with a single to center, putting runners on the corners. Bella Rosell-Diaz worked a walk to load the bases, and Kinsley Randall delivered a sacrifice fly to right field, allowing Villano to tag and score and cut the lead to 4-1.

The Lady Pioneers added to their lead in the second, stringing together a double and a run-scoring hit to make it 5-1.

Again, the Warriorettes had a response. Sophia Austin reached on an error to open the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Dreu Segraves. After moving to third on a groundout, Austin came home when Addison Finley lined a double to left, trimming the deficit to 5-2. A walk to Taylor put another runner aboard, but Warren County limited the damage there.

After a scoreless third inning, Warren County pushed across its final run in the fourth, capitalizing on a baserunner and a well-placed single to extend the lead to 6-2.

White County continued to battle, putting runners on base over the final innings. Josslyn Wright and Taylor each recorded hits, and the Warriorettes brought the tying run to the plate in the fifth, but a lineout ended the threat and the game.

Paizlee Taylor got the start in the circle and worked all five innings for the Warriorettes. She scattered six hits and allowed six runs, while walking four and striking out five. Of her 85 pitches, 50 went for strikes as she battled through each inning.

The loss brings White County’s season to an end just short of a sectional berth. Despite the early postseason exit, the Warriorettes closed the year with a strong regular season, finishing as District Runners-Up and putting together a campaign that set the tone for the program moving forward.
