White County High School cross country runners battled more than the course Thursday night as the Warriors and Warriorettes competed in the FHC meet just outside Livingston.
Rain earlier in the day left behind humid conditions by race time, something coach Terry Meece said played a role in keeping runners from posting personal-record times. Still, White County came away with three top-five finishes on the boys side.
Michael Smith led the Warriors, finishing third overall with a time of 25:00. Logan Allen was close behind in fourth at 25:25, while Isaac Williams crossed the line just five seconds later to take fifth in 25:30.
Nine White County boys competed in the meet.
On the girls side, Olivia Revange was the top finisher for the Warriorettes, completing the course in 33:00. Seven White County girls competed Thursday.
The cross country roster currently includes 23 runners, although several were unable to compete Thursday because of conflicts with soccer.
White County will return to competition Aug. 29 at Macon County before heading to The Hermitage on Sept. 4 for the Voyles Classic.
That meet has a special connection to White County. It is held in memory of Markie Voyles, a champion track and cross country runner from Sparta whose career was tragically cut short nearly two decades ago.
