The White County Middle School golf teams continue to stack strong outings, and Thursday’s showing was another big performance —especially for the boys, who came within two strokes of taking the top spot.
The Warriors finished second as a team with a 164, just edged out by Upperman’s 162. It marks one of White County’s tighter finishes of the season and shows how close this group is to breaking through for another win.
Leading the way once again was sixth grader Stone Whitson, who has quietly turned into one of the most consistent golfers on the roster. Whitson carded a team-best 37, marking another match where he paced the Warriors. Gaige Evans wasn’t far behind with a 39, giving White County a strong one-two punch at the top of the scorecard. Benji Johnson and Connor Delong each posted 44s, while Kyson Taylor rounded out the scoring with a 45.
On the girls side, the Warriorettes continued their winning ways, taking first place with a team score of 76—well ahead of Prescott’s 85. It’s the third straight win for the girls golf team, proving that their consistency is going to make them a strong post-season contender.
Ava Elrod led the charge with a 35, one of the stronger individual rounds posted this season. Piper Heady followed with a 41, while Rowan Hutson added a 48 and Karsyn West finished with a 56 to complete the team effort.
With the regular season winding down, White County now turns its attention to a busy stretch. The teams will host Smith County on April 20, travel to Golden Eagle in Cookeville on April 23 to face Smith County and Avery Trace, and then close out the regular season at home on April 27 against Warren County.
If Thursday’s performance is any indication, both teams are trending in the right direction at just the right time. The District Tournament is scheduled for April 30 with sectionals and state tournaments in mid-May.
