Walk-Off Win Lifts WCMS Warriorettes

The Warriorettes found their way back into the win column Wednesday evening, using a walk-off hit to secure a 2-1 win over Prescott South.

For three and a half innings, both teams threatened but couldn’t break through. White County consistently put runners on base, but timely hits were hard to come by as the game settled into a scoreless stalemate.

That changed in the bottom of the fourth.

Josslyn Wright reached to start the inning when a ground ball back to the pitcher was mishandled. Courtesy runner Kambrie Tayes took over and made the most of the opportunity, advancing to second and then third on a pair of infield outs. With two down, Sophia Austin delivered, driving a ball into center field for a triple that brought Tayes home and gave the Warriorettes a 1-0 lead. Austin was left stranded, but White County had finally cracked the scoreboard.

Prescott South answered in the fifth. Two walks and an error loaded the bases, and a ground ball plated the tying run. Another single kept the pressure on, but White County worked out of the jam with a strikeout and a fly ball to center, keeping the game tied at one.

In the bottom half, the Warriorettes wasted little time finishing it.

Bianca Villano drew a five-pitch walk to lead things off, and Addison Finley followed with a well-placed sacrifice bunt that moved Villano into scoring position. That set the stage for Paizlee Taylor, who helped her own cause by lining a ball into center field. Villano came around to score easily, sealing the walk-off win.

Taylor handled the work in the circle as well, going all five innings. She allowed just one run on three hits, worked through five walks, and struck out eight of the 25 batters she faced.

White County will wrap up the regular season Thursday evening when they host Warren County for Eighth Grade Night, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.
