New White County Commission takes up first full agenda

The White County Board of Commissioners will meet tonight for the first regular meeting of the newly seated full court, with several organizational decisions and proposed changes to how the commission operates on the agenda.

Commissioners will consider a comprehensive revision of the county’s Rules and Procedures. The proposed changes reorganize the rules, establish a clearer process for public comment, revise portions of the committee structure, and clarify voting and other meeting procedures.

Also up for consideration is a change to how commissioners are paid. Under the proposal, 12.5 percent of a commissioner’s monthly compensation would serve as base pay, while the remainder would be tied to attendance. Commissioners could earn 43.75 percent for attending their applicable Steering Committee meeting and another 43.75 percent for attending the full County Commission meeting.

With a new term beginning, commissioners also have some housekeeping to take care of. The full court will vote on appointments to its committees and boards before electing a chairman, vice chairman, and parliamentarian.

Tonight’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the third-floor courtroom of the White County Courthouse. The full agenda is included below.
