Warriors continue to cut times at John Freeman Invite

White County High School’s cross country runners continued to chip away at their times Saturday at the John Freeman Invitational in Bell Buckle, with several Warriors turning in personal-best performances.

Freshman Kolt Pryor once again led the White County boys, finishing 54th with a time of 20:57.67. That marked another personal best for Pryor, who ran 21:11.50 just two days earlier in Cookeville. He shaved nearly 14 seconds off that mark and broke the 21-minute barrier in the process.

Pryor wasn’t the only Warrior to make a sizable jump.

Freshman Isaac Williams finished in 21:51.22, nearly 45 seconds faster than his 22:36.10 on Thursday. Junior Logan Allen followed at 22:18.68.

Freshman Luke Benson also lowered his time, crossing in 23:37.58 after running 24:09.10 at the previous meet — an improvement of more than 31 seconds.

Junior William Martinez rounded out White County’s five boys runners with a time of 25:34.28.

On the girls side, Samantha Benson led White County with a time of 27:21.44.

For both the Warriors and Warriorettes, this season has been as much about improvement as where they finish in the standings. With White County’s cross country program in a rebuilding stage, the goal is to keep dropping times and building a group that can continue to grow. Saturday’s results gave the Warriors another step in that direction.

White County will be back in action next Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Burnett Invitational in Cookeville. The high school runners will be joined there by the White County Middle School teams.
