White County sweeps home golf match

White County's golf teams defended their home course Thursday, with both the Warriors and Warriorettes picking up victories at Sparta Country Club.

The Warriorettes stayed unbeaten to open the season, posting a team score of 156 to win by 36 strokes over Warren County (192). Livingston Academy finished third with a 194.

Sophomore Lenzie Golden continued her strong start to the season by earning medalist honors with a 4-over-par 74 on the par-70 course. Ava Elrod turned in the second-best round of the day with an 82, while Riley Hutson carded a 96 to finish fifth individually and complete White County's team score.

The Warriors also celebrated their first team victory of the season, finishing with a 309 to defeat Livingston Academy (348) and Marion County (349).

Lucas Phillips paced White County with a 5-over-par 75, finishing just one stroke behind the day's individual medalist from Marion County. White County's depth proved to be the difference as Matthew Wilson, Tripp Tollison and Jack Carpenter each shot 78s to round out the scoring lineup. Logan Howard added an 80, though his score was not needed for the team total. All four of White County's golfers were among the top five individualists on the afternoon.

White County faces a busy week ahead. The boys will compete in the Golf Capital Classic on Tuesday, while the girls return to Sparta Country Club on Wednesday to host Cookeville. Both teams will be back in action at home Thursday.
