Three hits not enough as Warriorettes fall to Stone Memorial
The White County bats never really got going Thursday night. The middle school Warriorettes managed just three hits, while Stone Memorial didn’t have that problem — the Lady Panthers piled up 11 on their way to a 5-2 win.
Izzy Sherman got the start in the circle and looked sharp early, retiring the leadoff batter on a groundout. But Stone Memorial followed with two singles and a double to push across a run, and things unraveled from there. A string of defensive miscues behind Sherman led to three more runs — all unearned — and suddenly the Warriorettes were chasing a 4-0 deficit before they could settle in.
White County answered in the bottom half of the inning. Bianca Villano worked a leadoff walk, and Addison Finley wasted no time bringing her home with a triple into right field. Paizlee Taylor followed with a sacrifice fly, trimming the deficit to 4-2 and giving the Warriorettes some life.
That momentum didn’t carry over. Taylor took over in the circle in the second inning and steadied things, but Stone Memorial tacked on one more in the third. A leadoff single turned into a run after an outfield error pushed the runner to third, and another base hit brought her home.
From there, both teams had chances but couldn’t cash in. Runners reached, but neither side could string together enough to change the scoreboard.
Sherman took the loss, allowing four runs — just one earned — on four hits and a walk while striking out one. Taylor worked the final four innings, giving up one run on seven hits and a walk while striking out three.
White County will be back on the field next Wednesday at DeKalb County before returning home Thursday to face Livingston Academy.
