The Warriorettes’ bid for a perfect week came to a stop Thursday night as Stone Memorial pulled away for a 12-4 win over White County.

White County found itself playing from behind almost immediately. While the Warriorettes made things interesting with a third-inning push, they never quite found the momentum needed to seriously threaten over the full seven innings.

Kylie Norvell got things started in the top of the first with a double to right field, but the early spark didn’t turn into runs. She was thrown out trying to score on an infield ground ball from Anna McCulley, ending the inning on a double play.

Stone Memorial wasted little time responding. The Lady Panthers sent the fourth pitch they saw over the center field fence for a 1-0 lead, then added to it in the second. A leadoff double came around to score on a single and an error, and although White County opted to pitch around the earlier home run hitter, two more defensive miscues allowed additional runs to cross. After two innings, the Warriorettes trailed 4-0.

White County answered in the third.

Addison Norvell led off by taking a pitch, and Kylie Norvell and McCulley followed with back-to-back singles to put the Warriorettes on the board. A walk to Callie Phillips loaded the bases, and Addison Howell drove in another run with a single. Annie Burrier added an RBI knock of her own, trimming the deficit to just one. But a double play halted the rally, and a strikeout ended the inning before White County could do more damage.

That would be as close as the Warriorettes would get.

The game stayed tight until the fifth, when Stone Memorial broke it open. Two singles and a walk set the table, and a two-out, bases-loaded double cleared three runs and pushed the lead out of reach.

White County scratched across one more run in the sixth behind a single from Addison Norvell and a double from McCulley, but the Lady Panthers answered again. Defensive struggles continued for the Warriorettes as Stone Memorial added four more runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the game away.

Mabry Taylor got the start in the circle for White County, allowing eight runs on 11 hits and five walks. Burrier came on in relief in the sixth, where four more runs scored.

White County returns to action Tuesday at home against Livingston Academy before traveling to Upperman on Thursday.
