For a group of mothers at Life Care Center of Sparta, Mother's Day arrived a few weeks late — but judging by the smiles throughout the room, the timing didn't matter.

On Tuesday, residents gathered for a special Mother's Day celebration organized by local musician Bubba Johnson, who wanted to make sure the women who call Life Care home had an opportunity to be recognized and celebrated.

More than 30 residents attended the event, which featured live music, flowers, desserts and a visit from some special guests.

Johnson spent the afternoon performing familiar songs and visiting with residents, while White County Sheriff Steve Page joined in the musical entertainment for a little while.

The celebration wasn't limited to music. Members of the White County Sheriff's Office brought K-9 Kilo to visit residents and demonstrate a few tricks, giving everyone a chance to interact with one of the department's most recognizable four-legged deputies.

Each resident also received a flower, courtesy of waitresses from Yanni's Grille, who helped ensure every mother in attendance was recognized during the event.

Desserts and refreshments were provided by White County Executive candidate Kyle Goff, adding another community touch to an afternoon built around honoring local mothers.

The most memorable moment came when 101-year-old Ms. Gracey was recognized as the oldest mother in attendance. She received a special gift and a round of applause from both fellow residents and guests.

While the event included music, flowers and treats, the afternoon was ultimately about something much simpler — making sure the mothers who helped raise families, build communities, and create lasting memories knew they had not been forgotten.
