Main Street Media, LLC announced Monday that Rachel Auberger has joined the company as it officially launches its newest digital news platform, Main Street Journal-Sparta.
The new outlet will serve as a daily digital source for breaking news, sports, government coverage, human interest stories and political happenings across the Sparta and White County community.
"We pride ourselves at the Main Street Journal on our continuous local coverage of news, sports, events and more," Editor-in-Chief Rob Nunley said. "That focus isn't going to change for our McMinnville team. But with Main Street Media already having radio affiliates in Sparta, it only made sense to follow the model we used in McMinnville and begin providing online content for that audience, as well."
Auberger brings six years of experience in news media to MSJ-Sparta and is eager to continue informing and serving the community she knows well.
“I am excited to continue serving the White County community by sharing their stories of both triumph and adversity,” Auberger said. “This new opportunity allows me to be at the forefront of a brand-new organization and deliver news to the community quickly and accurately. I’m truly looking forward to what’s ahead.”
Auberger moved to White County in 1989 and has made it home. After graduating from Tennessee Tech, she chose to open a business in Sparta and raise her daughter there, as well.
"With the steady decline in 'old-fashioned' print media, we've seen in McMinnville the audience for local content exists - even if the method through which subscribers receive that content changes," Nunley said. "We're confident Rachel's experience and reputation as a trusted news source in White County make her the perfect choice to spearhead the launch of MSJ-Sparta."
Having traveled the world and seen a variety of communities and cultures, Auberger said that she believes Sparta is a unique community full of commitment to each other with a strong sense of pride in tradition.
“Sparta is more than just the town where we live,” she said. “It’s a family. When one of us succeeds, we all succeed. When one of us suffers, we all suffer. The way this community supports its own, the way we rally around one another, is something special.
“White County is full of history and traditions that are being carefully curated and handed from one generation to the next. It’s a place where the past and present are meeting and merging to create a community residents can be proud of. The ability to embrace growth while not losing your identity is not an easy task, but I believe that is exactly what Sparta has – and I am beyond excited to be a part of it. I can’t wait to get started documenting your ‘new’ history and telling the world your stories.”
Main Street Media LLC is already a familiar name throughout White County, as the company owns and operates two local radio stations, 92.7 YERT and 107.7 The Mullet. In addition, the company has successfully operated the Main Street Journal in Warren County since March 11, building a strong reputation for timely, community-focused digital news coverage.
The expansion into White County marks an exciting new chapter for the company as it continues its mission to provide reliable, locally driven journalism. With the launch of Main Street Journal-Sparta, residents can expect fast, consistent access to the news that matters most to their community.
Initially, mainstreetjournal.llc will share space between each entity, with MSJ-Sparta stories categorized with a special "Sparta" tag which can be found at the top of the page. Clicking that link will take readers to exclusively Sparta content, which will be provided free to all readers while the permanent MSJ-Sparta page is under construction.
The two Journals will continue to preview content on their separate social media accounts. Readers are encouraged to follow Main Street Journal-Sparta's Facebook page for up-to-the-minute information.
