Warriorettes Hold Off Algood Rally

The White County Middle School Warriorettes found themselves in a tense finish on Monday night, but a clutch strikeout with the tying runs in scoring position helped them escape Algood with a 5–3 victory. What began as a fast start for Sparta turned into a last-inning battle, forcing the Warriorettes to dig deep to get the win. 

White County trailed 1–0 after Algood opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, but the second inning belonged entirely to Sparta. A combination of patient at-bats, timely hitting, and aggressive baserunning powered a five-run frame that flipped the game in the Warriorettes’ favor. 

A double by Randall and back-to-back walks to Sophia Austin and Dreu Segraves, set the table for what became a long inning for Algood’s defense. Bianca Villano delivered the equalizer with an RBI single that brought Kinsley Randall home. Moments later, Addison Finley ripped a two-run double to right side, scoring Austin and Segraves and pushing Villano to third. Paizlee Taylor capped the rally with a productive groundout that allowed Villano to cross the plate, giving White County a 5–1 lead. 

Both teams tightened up defensively over the next two innings, and the score remained unchanged heading into the fifth and final frame. That’s when Algood made its biggest push of the night. 

A ground-ball single paired with a White County error allowed two runs to score, trimming the Warriorette lead to 5–3. With two outs and runners standing on second and third, Algood threatened to erase the deficit entirely. But Taylor, who pitched a complete game for Sparta, stayed composed, delivering a game-ending strikeout that locked in the road win . 

The Warriorettes improve their spring record to 6-0-2 and will take on the Monterey Lady Wildcats on Tuesday.
