White County Middle School’s soccer team had to battle from behind Friday night, then withstand a late push from Upperman to come away with a 3-2 win.

The Warriorettes found themselves trailing 1-0 early, but were able to erase the deficit before the break. Late in the first half, Ana Dronebarger found Piper Green, who put the ball in the net to pull White County even at 1-1 heading into halftime.

White County wasted little time taking control after the break.

Dronebarger, who assisted on the first goal, opened the second-half scoring with a goal of her own to give the Warriorettes their first lead of the night.

Green then struck again for her second goal of the game. This time, Avery Ferguson provided the assist as White County pushed its advantage to 3-1.

That third goal proved to be an important one.

Upperman was able to cut into the lead with a late goal, making it a one-score game and putting the pressure back on the White County defense. The Warriorettes responded, locking things down the rest of the way and protecting the 3-2 advantage through the final whistle.

The win was the third straight for the Warriorettes. White County also picked up a 3-0 road win over Avery Trace on Aug. 14, with Dronebarger accounting for all three goals in the shutout.

The Warriorettes will be back in action Monday, Aug. 24, when they head to DeKalb County.
