White County property owners will not see a tax reduction this year despite the county receiving an unexpected $6 million payment tied to the sale of the county landfill.

Following a lengthy, and heated, debate Monday night, the White County Commission voted 8-3 to keep the county property tax rate at $1.41 per $100 of assessed value. The vote came after commissioners rejected two separate proposals that would have used a portion of the newly received landfill revenue to lower property taxes.
