White County’s season came to a close Tuesday night, but not before the Warriorettes showed just how far they had come.
Facing an unbeaten Blackman team (11-0) in the second round of the Region 3AA playoffs, White County fell 34-6. The final margin tells just part of the story.
At halftime, the Warriorettes trailed just 7-6, the closest any team had played Blackman through two quarters all season. The Blaze have allowed only five scores this season, and White County accounted for one of them, coming on a defensive spark that shifted momentum. The Warriorettes came up with multiple interceptions, including one returned nearly 75 yards for a touchdown.
White County’s ability to stay within a point at the break reflected a group that improved steadily throughout the season proving that the young Warriorette program is setting pace to become a contender in the upcoming seasons as the program - and the players - settle into the relatively new sport.
“Several JV girls got some valuable experience and playing time in a big game,” Mason said. “This young team gained some valuable experience this season and got better each game all the way to the end. We are very proud of them all.”
The Warriorettes close the year with a 7-9 overall record and a 4-5 mark in district play, navigating a competitive Region 3AA schedule.
Offensively, sophomore quarterback Sarah Kate Winfree played a central role after stepping into the position this season, averaging 110.6 rushing yards per game while accounting for 13 total touchdowns, eight through the air. Freshman Allibeth Stebing added 31.4 receiving yards per game and contributed across multiple areas, finishing with five total touchdowns. Seniors Katelyn Blakeman (27.1 Y/G) and Addy Cocke (26.3 Y/G) provided consistent production in the passing game, while Cocke also led the team with six interceptions on defense.
Defensively, the Warriorettes were active throughout the season, with Maddie Austin recording five interceptions and Rhaleigh Cloyd averaging 4.3 flag pulls per game. Winfree contributed on that side as well with seven sacks, underscoring her all-around impact.
Tuesday’s game also marked the final outing for seniors Blakeman, Cocke, and Zoey Clemons, who will graduate next week. Their leadership helped guide a young roster that showed clear growth by season’s end.
With key contributors like Winfree and Stebing set to return, along with several underclassmen who gained experience late in the year, White County heads into the offseason with a foundation already in place.
“Now we take a much needed break, for just a minute, and start getting ready for next year,” Mason said.
