The White County Middle School baseball team made the trip south to Warren County on Tuesday night, but couldn’t find enough offense to keep pace. The Warriors managed just two hits and drew four walks over five innings, but only one of those six baserunners advanced past second base in a 5-0 loss to the Pioneers.
Warren County got on the board in the bottom of the first, using a double and a White County error—one of two on the night—to push across the game’s first run. The Pioneers added to that lead in the second, stringing together a pair of singles with a stolen base in between to make it 2-0.
The gap widened in the third. A double followed by a wild pitch set the table, and a sacrifice fly made it 3-0. Later in the inning, a single and White County’s second error, paired with another double, brought two more runs home to cap the scoring at 5-0.
White County had chances but couldn’t build any sustained momentum. The Warriors put at least one runner on base in every inning except the third. Jack Dicus singled in the first, and Noah Teeple reached on a walk in the second. In the fourth, Ryder Staggs delivered a single and Tate Pinion followed with a walk, marking the first inning where White County had multiple runners on at once. In the fifth, back-to-back walks from Zade Brown—who eventually reached third—and Samuel Price still didn’t translate into a run.
On the mound, Dicus worked three innings, allowing two earned runs (five total) on six hits. He threw 68 pitches, 43 for strikes, and struck out three of the 17 batters he faced. Pinion came on in relief for the final inning and was efficient, retiring all three batters he faced, one via strikeout, on just 12 pitches.
The Warriors will wrap up the regular season Thursday when they host Warren County in the second half of the series. District tournament play begins Friday, with White County awaiting its seeding.
WHITE COUNTY BOX SCORE:
