White County Middle School had a little extra motivation Tuesday night — and it showed early.

Looking to avenge an April 23 loss that cost them the district’s top seed, the Warriorettes wasted no time taking control and this time made sure there would be no late drama, pulling away for a 9-4 win over Warren County to stay in the winner’s bracket.

White County set the tone in the bottom of the first. Bianca Villano led things off with a single, then used her speed to move into scoring position before Addison Finley drove her in with a line-drive single. The offense kept rolling from there. After reaching on an error, Bella Rosell-Diaz eventually came around to score on a single from Josslyn Wright. Carli Goines followed with an RBI single, and a pair of Warren County errors helped plate two more runs. Dreu Segraves capped the inning with an RBI single, and by the time the dust settled, the Warriorettes had surged in front 6-0.

Warren County answered in the second, using a mix of a hit batter, a single, and a wild pitch to push across a run and cut into the deficit.

White County answered immediately in the bottom of the frame. Paizlee Taylor reached with a single and later scored when Kinsley Randall roped a double to right, stretching the lead to 7-1.

The Lady Pioneers made their biggest push in the third, taking advantage of a single, a walk, and multiple errors to plate three runs and cut the Warriorette lead to 7-4.

But that would be as close as they would get.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Warriorettes created more separation with timely extra-base hits. Finley opened the inning with a double, and Taylor followed with another double to put runners in scoring position. Rosell-Diaz lifted a sacrifice fly to bring in a run, and Randall added another sacrifice fly to push the lead to 9-4.

From there, White County’s defense and pitching took over, shutting the door over the final innings.

Taylor went the distance in the circle, pitching all five innings. She allowed four runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits, worked around a few defensive miscues, issued a pair of walks, and racked up six strikeouts to keep Warren County from building any game-changing momentum.

With the win, the Warriorettes stay in the winner’s bracket and advance to tomorrow’s semifinal game against Dekalb County, with a trip to the district championship game on the line.
